The new list of Minister in Buhari’s Cabinet may not be everyone’s cup-of-tea, but no one can deny that it is rather surprising and to some extent impressive. I don’t wish to be one of those who criticises for its own sake, so am not going to. What I would say, is that the new Minister should be well advised to focus, be cognisant of the people’s hopes and deliver.

There is hardly a politician in Nigeria without some sort of baggage, but I believe Nigeria has a great opportunity, and so do they who have been vested with power, to create a new narrative of progressive governance.  Progress is possible, but it will not happen without good forthright leadership, commitment and good stewardship of public funds. To whom much is given, much is expected.

As citizens, we must recognise that the elections are over, and the duty of the good citizen is to support the government of the day in delivering its programme.  This is not to silence opposition, rather, a recognition that the task of nation building is a collective responsibility.  To this end, we have to give the cabinet a chance to succeed.  As they proceed, we the people, and the National opposition will provide the necessary critical friend support, pointing where they are going wrong, but also applauding where their steps lead to progress and development.  I congratulate them all.
